bio / statement
Zayn Wiwchar is an experimental media artist based on Vancouver Island, working on Lekwungen territory. His practice spans animation, sound-responsive visual projection, video, and collage. He uses layering and iterative editing to explore how emotion and memory are formed, repeated, and transformed through media processes.
Wiwchar’s work often begins with field recordings, found footage, and digital or physical fragments that are reworked through cycles of manipulation and recomposition. This method treats both sound and image as materials that can register feeling and recall, revealing how repetition and distortion shape perception.
His background in social work, psychology, and mental health informs his practice, grounding his exploration of systems, care, and technology in direct experience with human behavior and emotional processes.
