tessellation sandbox

A drawing tool for Islamic geometric pattern. Place stars, rosettes, girih and polygons, repeat them with rotational symmetry from one to twelve-fold, and build a tessellation outward from the centre. Load an image and the shapes become windows: reveal it, cut it out, mosaic it, or blend it through the pattern.

Runs in its own frame and nothing loads until you click. Click to place, scroll to zoom, space to pan; P and E switch place and erase, G toggles the grid, S snaps shapes to it. On a touchscreen, drag to line a shape up and lift to place it; pinch to zoom, twist two fingers to rotate the shape, and a quick two-finger tap undoes. Export saves the canvas as a PNG. Images you load stay in your browser.
